If an employer continues to employ an applicant in their original position (occupation), they should submit an application to the decision-making body 30 days before the expiration of the applicant’s work permit in China (Taking Shenzhen as an example, up to 90 days in advance is allowed).
Foreigners residing in China who apply for an extension of their residence period shall submit an application to the exit and entry administration of the public security organ of the local people’s government at or above the county level in the place of residence 30 days before the expiration of the validity of their residence certificates, and submit the relevant materials of the reasons for the application as required.
