When foreigners change jobs in cities, the original residence permit needs to be cancelled or changed accordingly. Usually, the following steps need to be followed:
1. Process: Firstly, submit the online work permit cancellation application and residence permit cancellation application in the management system of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, and then pay attention to the online review status. After passing the online review, the original paper version of the materials will be submitted to the Foreign Affairs Office Certificate Service Center. The Foreign Affairs Office Certificate Center will then deliver the materials to the corresponding Foreign Experts Bureau for verification and retrieval of the cancellation certificate.
4. Cancellation of residence permit: The application form of foreigner’s visa certificate, accommodation registration form, passport, work permit cancellation certificate, foreigner’s residence permit application report, contact card of foreign-related units, handling fees and other materials shall be submitted to the International Affairs Office’s permit handling center, which shall deliver them to the Entry Exit Administration Bureau.
5. Processing time: After the public security bureau accepts the entry and exit materials, it generally takes 5 working days to complete, but the specific time may vary by region.
6. Conditions for transfer of employment: foreigners who change employers but have not changed their jobs (occupations), and whose work type residence permits are within the validity period, can apply for work permits and residence permits for transfer of employment.
7. Necessity of Cancellation: After changing jobs, the original work permit needs to be cancelled because only after canceling the work permit is it considered as termination of the employment relationship.
8. Non cooperation in cancellation: If the previous company does not cooperate in canceling the work permit, you can try to file a complaint, apply for labor arbitration or legal proceedings, or wait for the work permit to expire and automatically cancel before applying for a new work permit.
