How long will it take for foreigners to renew their permanent residence cards?

The time limit for the renewal of the new Foreigner Permanent Residence Permit “Five Star Card” is generally 3-4 months.

From December 1, 2023, the National Immigration Administration will officially issue a new version of the People’s Republic of China Aliens’ Permanent Residence Identity Card, namely the “Five Star Card”.

Those who already hold the old Foreigner Permanent Residence Permit can apply for renewal.

The materials required for replacing (supplementing) the “Five Star Card” are as follows:
1. Application form, 3 recent 2-inch front facing photos without a crown, and photo collection receipt;
2. Now holding a copy of Foreigner’s Permanent Residence Identity Card;
3. Copy of valid passport;
4. If the permanent residence permit is lost, provide a case (incident) receipt issued by the public security organ of the lost land;
5. Relevant supporting documents for the original application reason.

The cost of replacing (reissuing) the “Five Star Card” is: 300 yuan for replacement and 600 yuan for reissue.

The application location is as follows: for investment, employment, special personnel, etc. handled by the supporting unit, apply to the local public security exit and entry department; Reunion applications should be submitted to the public security exit and entry department of the habitual residence.

The old version of Foreigner’s Permanent Residence Card can still be used during its validity period, and will be used as an independent identity document during its validity period. In order to facilitate Internet applications in various fields, it is recommended to change it to a “five-star card”.
