Chinese green card holders can purchase eligible housing in China, but it is not impossible to do so.
According to relevant regulations, foreigners who hold Chinese “green cards” (that is, permanent residence identity cards for foreigners), in principle, have the same rights and obligations as Chinese citizens, except for specific rights and obligations that cannot be enjoyed under political rights and laws and regulations. In terms of housing purchase, it is clear that the “green card” holders are not subject to the restriction that foreigners must live for one year in China to buy a house, and other purchase conditions are still subject to the relevant departments or local regulations. That is to say, as long as they meet the local housing purchase policy requirements, green card holders can purchase commercial housing for their own use or residence.
There may be some misunderstandings that green card holders cannot purchase apartments in China, perhaps due to an inappropriate interpretation of some special purchase restrictions or individual situations for foreigners in certain regions. In some cities, certain regulations and restrictions may be imposed on the purchasing behavior of foreigners, including green card holders, based on the local real estate market situation and regulatory needs. For example, the number of home purchases may be limited, but it is not completely prohibited. In short, it cannot be generalized that China does not allow green card holders to buy apartments in China.
