Expat amazed by digital payment service at first arrival in Guangdong

China released a guideline on March 7 aimed at optimizing payment services for bank cards, promoting the use of cash, and facilitating mobile payment. These efforts are intended to better accommodate the diverse payment preferences of foreigners and senior citizens in the country.
“It’s so easy and convenient,” said Minja Velickovic, an expat who recently arrived in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China for the first time. “You don’t need to carry cash. All you need in China is your phone, and you will have everything.”
Minja Velickovic used her foreign phone number and international bank card to register for a digital payment service. Watch the video to see how she traveled around Guangzhou, enjoyed local food, took the bus, and visited a zoo, all using her mobile phone only.
