Can foreigners with normal visas work when their spouses are reunited?

Couples of foreigners with normal visas cannot work directly when they are reunited.
Foreigners working in China shall obtain work permits and work type residence certificates in accordance with regulations. Foreigners holding reunion visas (such as Q1, Q2 visas or foreigners’ residence permits (the reason for residence is reunion)) are not allowed to work legally in China. If they work, it is illegal employment.
If a foreign spouse finds a suitable job in China and meets the conditions for obtaining a work visa and is employed by a company, they can convert their reunion visa into a work visa, thereby obtaining the qualification to legally work in China.
The materials required for applying for a work visa usually include:
Foreigner Work Permit Application Form;
Applicant’s passport or international travel document;
The applicant’s front bareheaded photo within 6 months;
Proof of work experience; Employment contract or employment certificate (including multinational company dispatch letter);
Certified or notarized highest degree (education) certificate or industry approval document, professional qualification certificate;
Certificate of no criminal record;
Medical examination certificate, etc. (specific requirements may vary due to regional and policy factors).
