Can foreigners obtain a work visa only with a high school degree?

Foreigners who obtain work visas in China need to meet certain conditions, which usually include but are not limited to the following:

1. Age and Health Status: The applicant should be at least 18 years old, in good health, and have no criminal record.

2. Educational background and professional skills: Applicants need to have the corresponding education, degree, and professional skills required for their job. For foreign professionals (Class B), a bachelor’s degree or higher and 2 years or more of relevant work experience are usually required.

3. Requirements for employers: Employers need to be established in accordance with the law, have actual business premises, pay taxes and social insurance in accordance with the law, and have no serious record of illegal or dishonest behavior. The position for employing foreigners shall be the position for which suitable candidates are temporarily unavailable in China, and the salary paid to foreigners shall not be lower than the local minimum wage standard.

4. Work permit and visa application: The applicant needs to obtain the Foreigner Employment Permit issued by the human resources and social security department, or the Foreign Expert Work Permit issued by the Foreign Experts Bureau.

For foreigners with only a high school degree, it may be difficult to obtain a work visa in China, because in most cases, at least a bachelor’s degree or above is required. However, if the foreigner has special skills, experience or special contributions in a certain field, and meets the needs of Chinese employers, it may also be possible to obtain a work visa in some cases.
The specific application requirements and procedures may vary with policy changes, subject to local policies.
